Port Douglas is located 60km north of the Cairns Airport, about an hour’s drive on the picturesque Captain Cook Highway.
Port Douglas is a popular, laid-back tourist town on the Coral Sea in Tropical North Queensland, Australia. The village is known for its welcoming atmosphere, beach resorts and as a base for visits to two World Heritage-listed areas: the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree National Park.
Take a look at our live webcam on the Main Street of Port Douglas here.
The main street – Macrossan Street – is lined with boutique shops, pubs, restaurants, take aways, bars and apartment complexes. At the eastern end of the main street, you will find Portico Shopping Centre and popular Four Mile Beach.
The western end of Macrossan Street takes you to a Anzac Park, the Dickson Inlet, Sunday Markets and St Mary’s By The Sea chapel. St Mary’s is well worth a visit with it’s large window behind the altar looking north over a beach to the Coral Sea, Snapper Island and Cape Tribulation beyond. Elsewhere in the township you will find plenty of accommodation choices from apartments through to luxury resorts, supermarkets, two world-class golf courses and the marina.
Located just 15 minutes from Port Douglas is the township of Mossman with the Mossman Gorge just west of the town. A must do for any visitor wanting to cool off with crystal-clear water flowing year round out of the rainforest behind.
Finally, Low Isles. An idilic coral island and adjacent low-wooded island, just 8km offshore from Port Douglas and another must-do destination. There is a choice of tour boats that can take you to this beautiful spot where you can spend time on the island and snorkelling either off the beach or from the tour boat.
